| Aramith Tournament Champion Snooker Balls 2 1/16" Simply The Best: World Snooker uses Tournament Champion snooker balls from Saluc for all its professional events. Saluc is a Belgian company, based in Callenelle, a small village in the Walloon region, not far from Mons. It was founded in 1923 as a chemical industry, specialising in tannery products. In 1950, it switched to making billiard balls and now, under the registered trademark Aramith, exports to more than 85 countries, with a remarkable market share of 80%. Snooker balls were once made of ivory, but in a move welcomed by elephants, manufacturers switched to crystalite before the Second World War. After 1950, Saluc found the tanning industry on the decline, but noticed that the billiard trade was on the up. The company made the ingenious decision to switch to making billiard balls out of phenolic resin; which they already had the chemical plant and expertise to produce. At first, there was competition from three other firms, but through the continuous fine-tuning of quality and the increase of production levels, Saluc succeeded to take a major competitive lead. Today, Saluc is the only company worldwide producing phenolic billiard balls. The manufacturing process follows a 13-step process and lasts 23 days, using only materials produced in Saluc’s own plant. | Aramith Tournament Champion SuperPro1G With Case. Aramith supplies specific snooker ball sets to the World Snooker professional players Association (W.S.A.) for more than 40 years. These sets are quite special: while their packaging and design make them look pretty like the regular Aramith Tournament Champion snooker sets, they are in fact drastically different and allow the W.S.A. professional players to reach the highest scores during the W.S.A. competitions. The main characteristic of this set is the maximum weight tolerance allowed: while the maximum weight difference between balls in a regular Aramith Tournament Champion snooker set (or a Super Crystalate snooker set) is 3 grams (official specifications), the maximum weight tolerance of our special W.S.A. set is only 1 gram. This set is now also supplied to the I.B.S.F.(International Billiard and Snooker Federation) representing the amateur players worldwide and is the official set for all I.B.S.F. tournaments. During the last World Cup organised in Damascus in December 2010, Rodney Goggins made a score of 147 with it.
